Katie Beckett GeorgiaGeorgia's Katie Beckett Medicaid, explained

Using Katie Beckett and GAPP together in Georgia

One gets your child Medicaid. The other brings nursing care home. Here's how they connect.

How they connect

The connectionGAPP pays for in-home nursing and personal care, but only for children with Georgia Medicaid. Katie Beckett is the Medicaid path for children whose parents earn too much for regular Medicaid.

Both rely on the same medical review team, Alliant Health Solutions, but they answer different questions. For Katie Beckett, Alliant asks whether your child needs institution-level care. For GAPP, Alliant decides which nursing or personal care services are medically necessary and how many hours.

A typical timeline

  1. Week 1

File the Katie Beckett application and get the medical packet to your child's doctor. Send us a message.

  2. While Medicaid is pending

Records and the doctor's order can be gathered now, so GAPP can move as soon as Medicaid is approved.

  3. Medicaid approved

Your Medicaid information goes with the GAPP prior authorization request for medical review.

  4. GAPP approved

Care begins. From here, keep both renewed: Katie Beckett with DFCS, and GAPP before its end date. If a letter arrives you're unsure about, send us a message.

The age gap to watch

GAPP can continue until 21, but Katie Beckett ends the month your child turns 19. If GAPP is part of your child's care, plan the switch to another Medicaid category well before the 19th birthday. See turning 19.
